On September 26, 2006, Dentsply International terminated 172 dealers in the United States. Many of these dealers represent local dealers that have supported the Dentsply line of products for decades. These relationships were overlooked in favor of the profit of Dentsply. This situation epitomizes the big business attack on small businesses throughout America.
These local dealers represent small, family owned businesses. They pay local taxes, support the local economy and are active in the local community. They employ warehouse personnel, office staff and local sales representatives.
Dentsply International would rather dictate to the dental practitioner their dealer of choice than allow you, the customer to make that decision. Dentsply International felt dentists only need a few choices and the personal attention of the local dealer is unimportant. With limited choices, the free market for prices and options disappears.
